One San Francisco music venue is already staking its claim as the city’s party destination for Fourth of July.
The Midway, known for hosting various electronic dance music shows, announced Tuesday, April 7, plans to host two back-to-back nights of live music during the holiday weekend.
Producer and DJ Deadmau5, electronic trio Nero and house artist Christoph are set to kick things off at the Dogpatch venue on July 4, followed by a night of 2000s nostalgia with hip-hop star Nelly. Supporting acts have not yet been announced for Nelly’s July 5 concert.
Ticket presales begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, for night one and at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, for night two. General sales for each night start at noon those same days.
The forthcoming summer shows are part of the Midway’s ongoing block party series, which features a dozen events through Halloween. The parties boast several stages, food trucks and more taking over the Midway and the surrounding Michigan and Marin streets.
Previously announced block party events include masked EDM duo ATLiens on June 13 and producers Zedd and Galantis during Pride weekend, June 27-28.
EDM shows have been growing more popular in the Bay Area over the past few years, from the continued success of Goldenvoice’s Portola Music Festival at Pier 80 to expanded electronic programming at Outside Lands, the annual music festival at Golden Gate Park produced by Another Planet Entertainment.
Just last week, San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie revealed the lineup for a free EDM concert celebrating Om Record’s 30th anniversary. Set for May 9 at Embarcadero Plaza, the daytime show has DJs Mark Farina, Colette b2b DJ Heather, Shiny Objects and J Boogie.
