El Chingon — purveyor of hand-crafted cocktails and “bad ass Mexican” food — is finally opening at 3404 Ross Ave. Construction has been going on since 2024.

People who are of legal drinking age are invited to check out El Chingon this weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 10-12) before the official grand opening. This is a free event where the public can sample the food and drinks at the new bar and restaurant. Click here to save your spot.

El Chingon also has locations in Fort Worth and San Diego, where there’s a full menu of entrees, tacos, brunch and drinks are served.

El Chingon isn’t the only new eatery coming to Old East Dallas. Dave’s Hot Chicken — also on Ross Avenue — has a soft opening on Thursday, April 9 and an official opening on April 10 at 4909 Ross Ave., Suite 100.

Further south at 2511 Swiss Ave., CTRL Room is taking the place of the former bar Citizen that closed earlier this year. CultureMap described this concept as an EDM (electronic dance music)-focused venue. CTRL Room has a soft opening scheduled for Thursday, April 9, but it’s sold out.

This weekend, the venue is serving as an official afterparty spot for the Breakaway Music Festival in Fair Park. Tickets are available here.
