Afro House musicians Black Motion shared a remix of San Fransiscan duo Karmacoda’s ‘Time’ on March 6th via Sola Musa Music. The single has received support from premiere electronic music platform YourEDM, National Irish public radio station RTÉ 2FM’s show Alternative with Dan Hegarty, as well as tastemaker publications Music In Africa and SIX AM. The release follows a well-received version by Prince Kaybee, championed by outlets including YourEDM, Music In Africa, SLIKOUR ONLIFE, and Vicious Magazine. Formed in 2010, Black Motion, now comprising founder Thabo Mabogwane and Kabelo “Problem Child Ten83” Koma, are renowned for their commanding percussion and rich Afro-house textures. With releases on Defected Records and multiple wins at the South African Music Awards, including Best Duo/Group and Best Dance Album, plus Gold- and Platinum-certified projects and a celebrated NPR Tiny Desk performance, Black Motion remain one of South Africa’s most influential dance acts.
Karmacoda is a genre-defying duo with a two-decade career spanning electronica, trip-hop, R&B, ballads, and dream pop. Known for blending soulful R&B with jazz lounge influences, Karmacoda’s work has been remixed by renowned electronic producers and DJs like Krono, Birds of The West, Extrawelt, Tobias Bergson, Oliver Schories and Prince Kaybee. The project has gained recognition from publications like YourEDM, CLASH Magazine, Wonderland Mag, Electronic Groove, House Music With Love, Dancing Astronaut, with airplay on NPR Music and RTÉ 2XM. The original version of ‘Time’ was lifted off their 2022 Lessons In Time LP. Featuring Jessica Ford (vocals), Brett Crockett (vocals/producer), and Eric Matsuno (bass/multi-instrumentalist), the track touches on themes of regret and introspection. It features subtle, autotuned vocals, interwoven into a symphony of piano chords, a steady shaker and mesmerising melody.
