Hey ROXIE! How are you?
Hi! I’m doing great, thanks for having me!
“Turn It Up” captures a high-energy, festival-ready sound. What was the original idea that sparked the track, and how did it evolve throughout the creative process?
Everything began with a small, looping melody I stumbled upon. As soon as I played those initial notes, I sensed there was something special about them. The production flowed effortlessly from there—each new element was crafted around that melody, transforming “Turn It Up” into the vibrant festival anthem I envisioned.
You take a hands-on approach to every stage of your music, from production to lyric writing. What do you enjoy most about having complete creative control?
I revel in being involved in every aspect of the creative process. Each element, from producing and writing lyrics to recording vocals and curating the visual identity of my project, allows me to bring my ideas to life. Crafting the world around my music enables me to authentically express who I am as an artist. That said, I’m aware of my limitations—mastering isn’t my strongest suit, so I leave that part to the experts. Knowing when to seek collaboration is just as crucial as the creative process itself.
The release is influenced by the golden era of EDM. What makes that period resonate with you as an artist today?
The golden era of EDM holds a significant place in my heart; it’s when I first discovered electronic music through outdoor festivals and intimate club nights. Those experiences ignited my passion for EDM, revealing the electrifying energy, catchy melodies, and the profound connection people share in those moments. Even if the term “EDM” may not be as commonly used today, the essence remains within me, and it continues to inspire my music.
What do you hope listeners feel when they first hear the track on a dancefloor?
When people hear “Turn It Up” for the first time, I want them to feel an irresistible urge to hear it again. Ideally, they’ll feel energized, jump, dance, and think, “Let’s play that again!” For me, the best compliment is knowing that one listen isn’t enough and that people crave to experience the moment again.
As both a Producer and an active DJ, how do your experiences behind the decks influence your studio creations?
Initially, I aimed to create music that would appeal to a wide audience, but my mindset shifted as I gained experience performing live. Now, I focus on creating tracks that excite me to play in my own DJ sets. If I genuinely enjoy playing a track and it gets the crowd moving, I know I’m heading in the right direction.
When producing a record like ‘Turn It Up,’ what elements do you concentrate on to ensure it resonates with audiences both live and through streaming?
For me, crafting a track that can be enjoyed in various contexts is crucial. On a festival stage, I want listeners to jump, sing, and share the energy. Conversely, on streaming platforms, I hope the melody lingers in their heads, prompting them to replay it. That’s always my goal during production.
Looking back at the first draft, what changed most between the initial version and the final release?
Interestingly, the most impactful changes were quite straightforward but made a considerable difference. I boosted the tempo from 130 to 135 BPM, injecting more energy into the track. I also opted for a punchier kick to create a more compelling drop. These adjustments significantly transformed the overall vibe and brought the track closer to the festival sound I envisioned.
Your sound blends powerful drops, uplifting melodies, and strong vocal moments. How would you describe the signature qualities defining a ROXIE production?
With ‘Turn It Up’ now released and a bustling summer of performances ahead, what are your main objectives for this new chapter?
This new chapter represents a significant turning point for me. Until recently, I balanced a full-time job alongside my music career, but with that chapter behind me, I’m ready to commit entirely to music. It’s a daunting but exhilarating opportunity I’ve long awaited. I’m eager to invest all my energy into my passion—creating more music, performing more shows, and forging deeper connections with people through my art.
