Mint XL Leeds is now up and running: the latest venture from the crew behind Mint Club, Mint Warehouse and Mint Festival has turned the old PRYZM building on Woodhouse Lane into a 2,500-capacity club where the sound system really is the main attraction.
Doors opened on Friday 25 September with a sold-out launch curated by local platform system. Craig Richards, Enzo Siragusa, Sonja Moonear and Fumiya Tanaka were on the bill, and the party took over every room in the building.
Inside Mint XL Leeds: three rooms, Funktion-One throughout
The venue sits inside the Merrion Centre, a few minutes from the city’s universities. PRYZM shut for good in 2024 after its parent company went into administration. Mint has split the space into three rooms. The Ballroom is the warehouse-style main room for headliners, with a large lighting ring hung above the dancefloor. The Club Room is on the same floor next to an open-air terrace, and The Cage is upstairs alongside a second bar with seating.
The audio work was done by Funktion-One dealer Audio Plus, which has worked with Mint for almost 20 years across the original club, the Warehouse and the festival. The Ballroom runs Vero VX with F124 bass. The Club and Cage rooms pair F124 subs with Evolution 2 and Evolution 2L speakers, and every DJ booth gets PSM318 monitors. Funktion-One says the aim was to bring the scale of Mint’s festival stages into a permanent club.
No phones, more dancing
Like Mint’s other venues, Mint XL has a strict no-phones policy at club events. Air conditioning was also part of the pitch, which is a big deal in a city where plenty of sweatboxes don’t have it.
The timing matters too. UK clubs keep closing, and here is a local promoter putting money into a large city-centre room instead. Mint’s history goes back to Mint Club, which ran from 1998 until it closed in 2018. Mint Warehouse opened in 2012.
What’s coming up
The autumn and winter season runs into February 2027 and already mixes house, garage and UK bass. DJ EZ and MJ Cole played on 3 October. Airspace marked its fifth birthday with Notion, Kyle Starkey and Camille Doe, and Ewan McVicar hosts Halloween on 31 October with Special Request and Olive F. Ben UFO is also on the season’s line-up.
