Armin van Buuren has recently won the Edison Publieksprijs Klassiek prize, an award that highlights his work in classical music. The recognition was presented to him during the Dutch television program Eva, featuring presenter Eva Jinek surprising him with the honor.
A Celebrated Achievement
Van Buuren is celebrated among other esteemed nominees like Joep Beving, Ludovico Einaudi, Lang Lang, and Anastasia Kobekina. This latest award marks van Buuren’s third Edison win, following his previous victories in the Dance category in 2006 and 2020.
Piano: A New Musical Venture
The Edison award recognizes the album Piano, which presents a different side of van Buuren’s musical expression. The journey towards this album began back in 2018 when van Buuren began piano lessons with composer and pianist Geronimo Snijtsheuvel.
This creative process led to a full album consisting of 15 piano compositions, including 14 original pieces along with an interpolation of Robert Miles’ ‘Children.’ The album was recorded in early 2025 in a single take, featuring string accompaniment.
Success of ‘Piano’
Piano was released on October 31, 2025, following an engaging promotional campaign with cryptic teasers and collaborations with Apple Music and Dolby Atmos. Since its release, the album has gained over 18 million streams, and van Buuren has showcased the pieces through live piano performances.
A Milestone in a Rich Career
This recognition from the Edison Publieksprijs Klassiek adds an unexpected yet significant achievement to van Buuren’s already illustrious career, which is primarily associated with electronic and trance music. His journey showcases another milestone for one of trance’s key figures.
