August Blues: What to Expect?

As August looms, many of us may feel those end-of-summer blues. The scorching heat of the Central Valley, the back-to-school hustle, and a seemingly empty calendar can put a damper on spirits. But fear not! The promise of community festivals in Modesto and the Mother Lode region is here to rescue your summer vibes.

Community Festivals to Enjoy

One of the highlights includes the Stanislaus Summer Rave, a lively fundraising event organized by the Turlock Chamber of Commerce. Expect music, dancing, and plenty of fun that brings the community together for a great cause.

In addition to the rave, you can savor some barbecue and cold beer while enjoying blues music in Atwater, listen to live bands during Modstock in Modesto, and celebrate all things Volkswagen in Turlock. Let’s dive into the exciting lineup of events that await you in August.

Blues, Brews & BBQ – Aug. 1

Join this festive celebration at The Tarmac Event Venue in Atwater, where you can indulge in live music and delicious barbecue. Acts like Shane Dwight and Mike Hammar & The Nails will take the stage from 5 to 11 p.m. Tickets are priced at $23.18. For details, check out their Instagram.

K-Pop Circus – Aug. 1

For something more dynamic, head to Modesto Centre Plaza for the K-Pop Circus. This family-friendly festival combines high-energy K-Pop performances with circus acts in two shows at 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Tickets start at $25. More information can be found here.

Crooked Spur Roundup – Aug. 2

Get ready for a day full of line dancing and country music at the Crooked Spur Roundup in Oakdale. Featuring Zena Jean and more, this all-ages event includes vendors and a bounce house. Happening at The Crooked Spur from 4 p.m. onwards, this event is free! Check their Instagram for updates.

VW Fest – Aug. 1-2

Turlock is hosting its community-focused VW Fest, a celebration of Volkswagen culture, music, and a swap meet. This event takes place at the Stanislaus County Fairground, starting Saturday at noon and Sunday at 6 a.m. Entry fees: $25 for the car show and $40 for the swap meet. Modstock – Aug. 9

If you’re a music lover, don’t miss Modstock at Graceada Park. With nearly 100 bands performing across six stages, this event promises a day of fantastic music and an outdoor market from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The tribute band Sounds So Petty will perform afterward. That Car Show In Tuolumne – Aug. 12

For fans of classic cars, the That Car Show in Tuolumne will be held at West Side Memorial Park from 5 to 8 p.m. Enjoy an evening filled with classic vehicles and live music by Spinout, all for free! More details can be found here.

Black Bomb Metal Fest 13 – Aug. 15

For those who lean towards heavier music genres, the Black Bomb Metal Fest 13 is scheduled at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds. With 19 bands on two indoor stages, including headliner Amerakin Overdose, this festival from 2 to 11 p.m. will also feature a beer garden and food vendors. Tickets cost $30. Stanislaus Summer Rave – Aug. 22

The Stanislaus Summer Rave is not one to miss! An electronic festival with food vendors, taking place from 2 to 11 p.m. at the Stanislaus County Fairground, ticket prices range from $25 to $81.88. Register for this electrifying event here.

Hot August Nights at the Museum – Aug. 22
