SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Breakaway Music Festival has officially landed in Sacramento, marking its inaugural event at the iconic Cal Expo. This highly anticipated festival brings electric vibes to the city after three successful years in San Francisco, and attendees couldn’t be more thrilled about the change of scenery.
A New Festival Experience
With three distinct stages and dozens of performances scheduled, the festival promises a weekend packed with the heart-pounding beats of electronic dance music (EDM). Day one set the tone with electrifying sets by superstar artists such as Tiesto, Elderbrook, and Malaa. As excitement builds for day two, festival-goers are eager to see headliners Martin Garrix and Louis the Child take the stage.
“It’s great. I love it. We’re happy to be here and excited for the next two days,” shared Ryan McAuliffe, a festival-goer who encapsulated the positive energy surrounding this event.
The Sacramento Shift: Convenience and Surprise
The decision to host Breakaway in Sacramento has sparked a mix of surprise and delight among attendees. Many had grown accustomed to traveling to San Francisco for EDM gigs. However, this change has provided a refreshing opportunity for locals.
“I was really surprised that EDM was making its way over to Sacramento of all places. I mean, I’m used to going to San Francisco and all sorts of different places,” shared Dre Alvarado. “But in Sacramento, it’s kind of great to just be able to drive 10 minutes from my house to come to an EDM fest.”
Yadira Cuevas echoed similar sentiments, stating, “First of all, less travel time. So it’s great. I love it.” The accessibility of the festival has made it particularly appealing for locals who previously had to travel farther to indulge in their love for EDM.
Boosting the Local Economy
Visit Sacramento has noted that this festival will be a significant boost to the local economy, particularly as the city transitions from the recently concluded GoldenSky Country Music Festival. The organizers are expecting around 20,000 attendees over the course of the two-day event, showcasing the growing popularity of electronic music in the region.
A Sense of Community
While the festival introduces a fresh sound to Sacramento, it also builds on the familiar sense of unity that music festivals often foster. “I think like overall, there’s just so much love and positivity,” Alvarado commented, further emphasizing the communal atmosphere.
Gabriela Hernandez added, “Everybody just feels like family when you don’t even know them.” This sentiment resonates strongly within the EDM community, creating an environment filled with camaraderie and connection among attendees.
Amanda Katami succinctly summed up the atmosphere: “We’re here to dance, and it’s just all peace, love, unity, and respect.” These principles resonate deeply within the festival culture, encouraging all who attend to leave their worries behind and lose themselves in the music.
Looking Ahead
As day two approaches, many attendees express the hope that this festival will become a staple in Sacramento. Cuevas remarked, “Hopefully, people bought tickets so they could bring it back next year.”
With doors opening for day two at 3 p.m., there’s still time for those eager to join in on the fun, as one-day passes are available for around $100. The Breakaway Music Festival promises not just a weekend of music, but a celebration of community, accessibility, and the electric thrill of live performance in the heart of Sacramento.
