Nashville-based music company Concord has acquired the renowned independent label Ninja Tune, expanding its global label and publishing portfolio.
Music company Concord has acquired the influential London-based independent label Ninja Tune, further expanding its presence across the global music industry. The deal was announced on March 12, though the financial terms have not been disclosed.
As part of the acquisition, Concord will also take ownership of Ninja Tune’s publishing arm, Just Isn’t Music, along with its roster of songwriters, composers and producers. The publishing catalogue includes the majority of music released on Ninja Tune, as well as works by artists such as The Prodigy and Soulwax.
In a statement accompanying the announcement, representatives described the partnership as a step that will provide Ninja Tune with additional resources to support its global success while maintaining its creative identity. Label founders Coldcut emphasized that the agreement allows the company to preserve the culture and ethos that have defined Ninja Tune since its founding, while continuing to push innovation within the independent music sector.
The acquisition marks Concord’s latest move in the label market. Last month the company also invested in Giant Music, a label that works with artists including Isabella Lovestory and Cash Cobain.
Concord describes itself as one of the world’s leading independent music companies, operating across recorded music, publishing, theatre, film and television, as well as licensing.
