LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum artist, producer, and songwriter Illenium becomes the second EDM artist to bring to life a show at the Sphere: ILLENIUM Presents ODYSSEY.
Las Vegas NOW Executive Producer Celina Tuason spoke to the DJ, whose name is Nick Miller, after his opening weekend.
“So much work and finally getting it this really perfect state myself and my team really got it to where just so proud of it, and so excited to share it with people, it’s been epic,” said Illenium.
His album Odyssey was specifically created for the Sphere, something that has never been done before.
“I always wanted to do something there, but I feel like I’ve had the most creative freedom and most and be able to push the boundaries the best if I started from scratch.”
“Really, 15 months ago I was like let’s just do an album show, let’s write a new story for it, I love telling stories and making worlds out of my albums, this was just the best canvas to do that on,” he said.
For the show, Illenium created two characters that take fans on an emotional battle of light and dark, called Lux & Umbra.
“I really want to create this two really big worlds around a light, like the light aspects of yourself, and the dark aspects of yourself.”
“That’s kinda like what’s inside of us, the whole journey of trying to find the good in both sides, accepting yourself, and finding confidence and love, and like all of that, that battle we all go through. I just really resonate with that,” he said.
He did open up about the controversy brought up by some fans who thought the “Slave to the Rithm” part, which is a song with the band “Bring Me the Horizon,” was borderline demonic.
“I think it’s just so hilarious cause like, if you actually went to the whole show its literally about defeating your demons, being connected with yourself.”
“I am such a huge Bring Me (The Horizon) fan, I love their shows, and I don’t think the two really put the two together. And if you’re at the show, you obviously see it’s like there is a glitch happening, it’s like super cool sound effects and then Bring Me The Horizon hijacks in, and it’s this really cool, way different moment.”

With the opening weekend completed, Illenium reflects on some of his favorite parts of the show.
“I think the fight scene is fantastic. One part that always [expletive] me up is “Into the Dark”; the second half of “Into the Dark” gets me real good. I mean, the last three songs I love, love. It just feels so rewarding, like “All That Really Matters” moment into the finale medley, visiting everything, that just wrecks me every time, every night.”
ILLENIUM Presents ODYSSEY is taking place at the Sphere on March 13, 14, and April 2,3, & 4
