His impressive discography includes releases on respected labels associated with industry legends like Sasha, Solomun, Max Cooper, and Guy J, and he enjoys support from influential artists such as Adriatique, Hernán Cattáneo, Bonobo, and Dixon.
In 2024, after a period of self-reflection and creativity amidst the stunning backdrop of the Austrian Alps, Budakid launched his independent label, Flores. This venture emphasizes artistic integrity, providing a platform for his DIY works and the music of close friends and peers. With over a thousand performances under his belt, from major festival stages like Tomorrowland and ADE to iconic clubs like Watergate and Paradiso, Budakid continues to strike a balance between artistic output and the genuine human connection that has become increasingly rare in the electronic music landscape.
Flores also served as the launchpad for Budakid’s latest opus, Dreams Stretched Beyond. Exploring unconventional sounds and rich narratives, this album is as much a musical expedition as it is a reflection of Budakid’s life journey. Congratulations on the release of Dreams Stretched Beyond! How has the public reception been so far?
“I’ve been making music for so long, 20 years in fact, and I’ve attempted to create an album several times before without success. This time, however, the circumstances felt different. The public seemed to anticipate an album release, coinciding with a broader trend of artists exploring full-length projects. The reactions so far have been quite positive, with listeners expressing surprise at the varied facets displayed in my music. Historically, I wanted Budakid to remain solely instrumental, steering clear of vocals, but I’ve been experimenting more lately, and this album reflects that evolution—it’s an intensive DIY project released on my label, Flores, allowing me to maintain complete creative control.”
This control became crucial for Budakid, who shared how the competitive nature of today’s music industry, increasingly infiltrated by AI, has made it challenging for traditional producers. For him, crafting a piece can take weeks or even months, a stark contrast to the rapid pace of AI-assisted music creation. But metrics and algorithms weren’t his primary concern; instead, it was about completing a deeply personal journey.
Can you take us back to the beginning of Dreams Stretched Beyond? What sparked the project?
“For years, I hesitated to create a debut album due to the immense pressure it carries as a definitive statement of my artistry. Two years ago, I relocated to the remote mountains of Tirol, where I was freed from the constant external influences of city life. This solitude allowed me to introspect deeply and connect with my beliefs. I created around 30 tracks during this period, and only 10 made the final cut. Initially, I envisioned releasing them as separate EPs. However, I realized they formed a cohesive narrative, leading to the idea of an album, which ultimately felt like it was born from my own process of self-acceptance.”
Was there a particular moment in the production of the album that stands out to you?
“The most memorable moments arise when an idea connects in the studio—a rare occurrence influenced by my emotional state and surroundings. When I find a draft that sticks with me for days, it signals that I need to finish it. The raw process of creating always excites me; whether I’m playing chords on the piano or experimenting with synthesizers, it’s all about finding that spark.”
Reflecting on your journey, who or what drove you to become a musician initially?
“Music has always been playful for me. I started playing drums as a kid and was introduced to music software by my cousin. As a 90s kid enamored with technology, that moment was transformative. I quickly exchanged video games for music-making software and began sharing my work on a social platform where I found the early motivation to refine my craft into a public persona.”
Can you share a standout memory from your extensive touring experience?
“Two experiences hit me immediately: performing on the Great Wall of China and playing a full moon party in the Thai jungle. The latter involved a ride through dense jungles to a secluded beach, a moment filled with surreal joy and excitement shared with fellow artists. Those types of experiences, where the moment feels monumental, are unforgettable.”
We’ve heard there’s potential for a remix album related to Dreams Stretched Beyond. Can you share any details on that?
“I’ve been genuinely surprised and grateful by the caliber of artists who have chosen to remix my tracks. The lineup includes many musicians who have been influential in my journey, and I find it incredibly meaningful. I prioritized a personal connection over commercial considerations, ensuring the selections resonate with my musical philosophy.”
How has your geographical journey shaped your music and life perspective?
“I grew up in a small town and later immersed myself in the bustling city of Bangkok during an internship. This exposure expanded my worldview. Eventually, I settled in Berlin for its accessible lifestyle and vibrant music scene. My two-year hiatus in the mountains was transformative; it helped me understand the importance of finding space to reflect, resulting in a deeper appreciation for social connections when I returned to Berlin.”
If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?
“My dream collaborator would be Thom Yorke. His philosophy and creative process have always inspired me. Watching him work would be a dream come true.”
What are your all-time favorite albums that you return to often?
“Caribou’s Swim is one of those albums I’ve known intimately for years. Radiohead’s In Rainbows and Tycho’s Dive also resonate deeply with me, bridging atmospheric sounds with captivating melodies.”
If you weren’t a musician, what path could you envision following?
“With a background rooted in design and a passion for culinary arts, I often joke that I might have become a chef. Cooking and music share a creative essence, both involving the right blend of elements to create something beautiful. Documenting my culinary experiences while touring was even something I considered!”

“Focus on the joy of creation and remain curious. Success should never be the primary goal; rather, it’s about the passion for what you do. Embrace your individuality and resist the urge to mimic trends—the key to lasting artistry lies in authentic self-expression and a commitment to craft over commercial gain.”
