American Bass artist GRiZ is facing public scrutiny for continuing to host his Seven Stars festival at Oak Ridge Farm, a venue with a complex history as a former slave plantation in Virginia. This controversial choice has led to questions about the festival’s commitment to messages of inclusion and community, prompting GRiZ to address the situation via social media.
Intentional Hiatus Announcement
In a recent social media video, GRiZ revealed that he only discovered the venue’s troubling background shortly before the event. Although his team had conducted prior research, they did not inform him about the historical significance of Oak Ridge. Recognizing the festival’s mission to promote inclusion and social justice, GRiZ expressed that hosting it there contradicted these values. He emphasized his commitment to various social issues, including immigration rights, racial justice, and LGBTQ+ rights, stating that the festival will be put on an indefinite hiatus until a more suitable venue is found.
Future Plans for GRiZ
Despite the controversy surrounding the Seven Stars festival, GRiZ is maintaining his momentum in the music scene. He is set to return to the Gorge Amphitheater for the second edition of GRiZTronics next May, which will feature a three-day camping experience over Memorial Day weekend. The festival, curated in collaboration with Subtronics, boasts an eclectic lineup designed to inspire a spiritual awakening, featuring artists such as Cannabliss, Clozee, Whethan, Inzo, Eazybaked, Jkyl & Hyde, and Daily Bread.
