Yasmine Yousaf, one half of Krewella, is launching her new solo project, yyousaf, with the debut single ‘BODIES IN THE CLUB.’ Set for release on October 30, this announcement comes just ahead of Krewella’s headline performance at a Halloween show at Pier 17 in New York alongside NERVO, Arty, and DVBBS.
Independent Creation
Yousaf has taken full control of ‘BODIES IN THE CLUB,’ writing, recording, and producing the track entirely by herself. The upcoming single is promoted as a rave-influenced piece, characterized by edgy bass production and vocals that are more pronounced than her previous work with Krewella. The song embodies a thematic exploration of integrity within the music industry, inviting listeners to reflect on their perceptions.
Personal Artistic Expression
In her own words, Yousaf describes this new project as the most personal songwriting experience of her career. She expresses her creative vision as a blend of pop melodies, indie-sleaze, and electronic music that values authenticity over large audiences. The aim is for listeners to connect with the music on a deeper level, capturing the essence of individual expression.
A Long-Awaited Vision
The concept for yyousaf has been developing since 2020. After taking a two-year break from Krewella, Yousaf returned to the studio with what she describes as renewed urgency. By 2025, she decided it was time to bring her new material to life, distinguishing it from her work in Krewella.
Parallel Artistic Journey
Yousaf emphasizes that yyousaf is not a rebranding, but rather a parallel creative outlet that stands apart from her established collaborative work with Krewella. She aims to create a space that allows her to explore various emotions and ideas without the safety net of established partnerships. This exploration marks a new and exciting chapter in her artistic journey.
‘BODIES IN THE CLUB’ will be available to listen to across all platforms beginning today.
