Montreal electronic music icon Tiga is back with his latest single “FRICTION,” a moody, electro-tinged vocal track that serves as the final preview of his highly anticipated album HOTLIFE.
Released today via his own Turbo Recordings in partnership with Secret City Records, “FRICTION” showcases a different side of the veteran producer. Gone are his signature rapid-fire hooks, replaced by a more contemplative approach that captures the collective mood of our current times.
A Departure From His Usual Style
Tiga proclaims, “Too much friction, too much tension… I need some of your attention” on the track, threading together themes that feel particularly pertinent right now. The song delves into what the press materials describe as “the human condition,” addressing those daily struggles that make it feel like “it costs a million dollars just to stay alive.”
Co-written with Jesper Dahlbäck and Priori, and featuring additional production from Patrick Holland, “FRICTION” exemplifies Tiga’s continued mastery of balancing lighthearted tones with heavier emotional content. This duality has kept the Montreal native relevant across several decades of electronic music evolution.
The HOTLIFE Album Rollout
“FRICTION” caps off the singles campaign for HOTLIFE, following earlier releases such as “ECSTACY SURROUNDS ME,” the collaboration with Fcukers titled “SILK SCARF,” and his partnership with Boys Noize on “HOT WIFE.” The 12-track album is a significant milestone for Tiga, marking his first full-length studio effort in a decade.
Set for release on April 17, 2026, HOTLIFE promises collaborations with Boys Noize, Fcukers, Maara, and MRD. This project represents both a return to form and an evolution for an artist who has consistently shaped Montreal’s electronic music landscape.
Tiga’s Enduring Legacy
For those new to the scene, Tiga’s influence runs deep. The Montreal-born artist pioneered the city’s rave culture in the early ’90s, famously throwing the city’s first rave “Solstice” in 1993. His label, Turbo Recordings, became a launching pad for acts like Chromeo, Gesaffelstein, Duke Dumont, ANNA, and Charlotte de Witte.
As a producer, he garnered global recognition with his electro cover of “Sunglasses at Night,” alongside remixes for iconic artists such as The xx, LCD Soundsystem, and Depeche Mode. His contribution to the prestigious DJ Kicks series and original works like “Pleasure from the Bass” have cemented his place in the pantheon of electronic music history.
Extensive World Tour Incoming
Tiga isn’t merely releasing new music; he’s taking it on the road. The tour launched today in Buenos Aires and includes major festival appearances at Movement Detroit, EDC Las Vegas, and HARD Summer. Miami’s Factory Town will host two shows (March 25 and 28), with Europe featuring stops at legendary venues like Berghain and Nitsa Barcelona.
Other notable stops on this global tour include Beat Herder in the UK, Rock Herk in Belgium, and Chasing Summer in Calgary. It’s evident that Tiga is ready to share these fresh sounds with dancefloors across the globe.
“FRICTION” serves as an ode to dance music’s ability to provide an escape from daily struggles while also reflecting on the complexities of modern life. For an artist who has skillfully blended pop sensibilities with underground credibility, this new release feels like a perfect bridge between eras.
You can stream “FRICTION” now on all platforms, with HOTLIFE available for presave ahead of its April 17 release. Vinyl pre-orders are also live for those who crave the full analog experience.
