The Justice Gesaffelstein Pusher collaboration is finally real: the two pillars of French electro have released their first-ever track together, and it comes straight from Justice’s Grand Theft Auto VI: Original Score. Out since 29 October, “Pusher” runs just over seven minutes and is the second taste of the score after the Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard-assisted “Flower in a Hurricane”.
Justice Gesaffelstein Pusher: what it sounds like
Anyone who wore out Cross will feel at home. The track pairs Justice’s widescreen, cinematic edge with Gesaffelstein’s punishing percussion and dark electro, built on marching kicks, heavy bass and a menacing synth line with nods to electro-techno and coldwave. Comparisons to Justice classics “Stress” and “Generator” are already doing the rounds, and some sharp-eared fans recognised it as an unreleased ID from a recent Justice DJ set in New York. The second half leans more melodic, but the tension never lets up.
The GTA VI Original Score album
Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay were confirmed as the game’s composers on 15 October, when “Flower in a Hurricane” premiered with the launch trailer. Rockstar Games describes their work as an adaptive score that shifts with the way players move through Vice City and Leonida during Jason and Lucia’s story.
The album lands on 11 December via Because Music, Ed Banger and Rockstar Games, about three weeks after the game itself hits PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on 19 November. Officially, it carries 30 tracks plus a batch of digital bonus material across all formats, adding up to more than three hours of music. Physical fans get a double CD and a triple LP, with the vinyl pressed in standard black and a limited crystal-clear edition.
“The scope of the game is so large geographically and thematically that it was clear from the beginning the music would also have to be very broad in terms of emotions, genres, and textures,” de Rosnay said, adding that the duo had the freedom to explore whatever they needed to musically.
The score is separate from Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, a 34-track collection arriving with the game that features Fred again.., PinkPantheress, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, Étienne de Crécy, Travis Scott and many others. For the Ed Banger faithful, though, a Justice and Gesaffelstein team-up soundtracking a night drive through Vice City might be the most exciting news of all.
