A resident DJ at Cavo Paradiso in Mykonos for close to three decades now, Freespirit opens up on his journey within the dance scene, managing a record label and future plans among other things.
Leaving a distinctive mark on the global dance scene, Freespirit embodies the essence of artistic dedication and musical mastery. Originating from Greece, he has captivated audiences for nearly three decades as a resident DJ at Cavo Paradiso in Mykonos. With a formidable presence in the house music scene, Freespirit has not only marked his territory with his remarkable talent but has also shared insights into his inspirations, musical evolution, and future plans.
Hello, Freespirit! Could you share your primary inspirations and influences on your music journey?
“Thank you for having me! It’s truly a pleasure to chat with you. My music journey began at 16 when I started performing in local bars in my hometown. A pivotal moment came when I visited Mykonos, where I had the chance to perform at various beach clubs. My first gig at Cavo Paradiso was transformative; I’ve been returning every summer ever since!”
Versatility plays a crucial role in dance music. How did your style originate, and in what ways has it evolved over the years?
“I’ve always been drawn to powerful drums and heavy basslines. Artists like Danny Tenaglia, Steve Lawler, and Chus & Ceballos heavily influenced my musical palette. My style has certainly evolved, but I aim to maintain a blend of groove, emotion, and energy, staying true to my artistic identity.”
Being a pillar in Cavo Paradiso for more than two decades, how has this venue shaped your career?
“Residency at Cavo Paradiso is an unmatched experience. This summer marks my 26th season here. I consider it a big school, teaching me how to adapt to various crowds. The diverse nature of the performances—opening, peak-time, and after-hours—has made me a more flexible DJ. It’s a tremendous opportunity to learn from world-class artists and to stay attuned to the latest trends in the industry.”

As the A&R for Cavo Paradiso Records, what sets this label apart, and how would you describe its identity?
“I spearheaded the relaunch of Cavo Paradiso Records with a fresh concept focusing on quality dancefloor music across genres. Since the club hosts a variety of styles during summer, our label mirrors this philosophy. We connect with top artists for exclusive demos and also nurture emerging talent, providing a platform for their creations. Additionally, we offer limited colored vinyl editions for our best-selling tracks each year, giving clubbers a unique memento.”

With significant international shows approaching, could you walk us through your upcoming events and your preparation process?
“This upcoming season is incredibly thrilling for me. I’m set to perform at festivals like Electric Love in Salzburg and Untold Festival in Romania, alongside my residency at Cavo Paradiso. I’ll share stages with artists like Diplo and Meduza. Later, I’ll return to one of my favorite places in Ibiza at Hï Ibiza and lead a Cavo Paradiso takeover at Ministry of Sound in London.”

Can you share any hints about your upcoming releases and recent collaborations?
“This year has been rich in new music. I’ve collaborated on a few tracks with Eran and created a remix for Claptone’s album, ‘Wanderlust.’ Moreover, I’m excited to team up with my good friend High Notes, releasing tracks on Side of the Moon and MoBlack. I’ve also worked with Marasi, Melo, and the legendary Glenn Morrison on projects slated for release later this year.”
Looking ahead, what are your goals in both your creative endeavors and as a label manager?
“I’m focused on nurturing Cavo Paradiso Records, championing the electronic music scene, and aiding new artists’ growth. Personally, I aim to continue producing quality music, collaborating with exceptional talent, and performing on prominent stages worldwide.”
With a career trajectory of such excellence, Freespirit continues to etch his own narrative within the dance music community. There’s no doubt he is an artist to watch, and you can follow his journey on Facebook, Instagram, and Spotify.
