In the dynamic world of electronic music, collaborations often emerge as defining moments for artists, and few partnerships have created as much anticipation as that of Seven Lions and Kill The Noise. Their latest single, ‘I Need’, set for release on August 28 via Monstercat, marks a significant moment in their ongoing collaboration history. This track is their eighth collaboration and follows the iconic ‘Cold Hearted’, which first debuted on the label in 2017 and quickly became a fan favorite.
The essence of ‘I Need’ lies in its breathtaking melodic construction, which unfolds into monumental, high-energy drops—an established trademark of both artists. This track not only draws inspiration from the emotional depth found in ‘Cold Hearted’ but also infuses it with a contemporary twist, pushing their musical narrative into new territories.
“We did start out with the intention of making ‘Cold Hearted’ part two, so we knew it was going to be melodic and kind of heavy, So it was pretty intentional.”

Revisiting Chemistry
For Kill The Noise, the process of creating ‘I Need’ involved a deep introspection into the magic that characterized their first collaboration. Through this reflection, he sought to recapture the creative mindset that birthed a track now considered a classic in the bass music scene.
“During the making of ‘I Need’ I was trying to remember what my thought process was when we made ‘Cold Hearted’ back in 2017 and trying to figure out how I get back to that… ‘I Need’ ended up actually being in the neighborhood of ‘Cold Hearted’ but modernized to some level.”
Kill The Noise
This enduring collaboration between Seven Lions and Kill The Noise dates back to their early experiences at OWSLA, where a mutual affinity for melodic songwriting blended with innovative bass sounds ignited their creative partnership. The result? A portfolio that consistently resonates within the electronic community.
Monstercat x Ophelia
The timing of this release is particularly poignant for Seven Lions, whose recent triumphs include the critically acclaimed album Asleep in the Garden of Infernal Stars and its companion EP, The Dreams Strange and Eternal. These releases not only garnered Album of the Year accolades from Dancing Astronaut but also claimed the title of Best Album at the EDM Awards. The upcoming performance of Opus Harmonia in collaboration with the Seattle Symphony on September 25 is another monumental milestone, promising an immersive experience blending electronic music with classical arrangements.
