Seven Lions and Kill The Noise Reunite for an Awe-Inspiring New Single, “I Need”
Electronic music enthusiasts are buzzing with excitement as Seven Lions and Kill The Noise unveil their latest collaboration, “I Need.” This anticipated single marks the duo’s eighth partnership and is now officially available through both Monstercat and Ophelia Records. This new track not only reaffirms their mutual passion for creating high-energy electronic music, but it also serves as a follow-up to their beloved 2017 release, “Cold Hearted.” As they reconnect, the duo sets out to honor their roots while embracing a new sonic landscape that excites fans and newcomers alike.
At the core of “I Need” is a blend of soaring melodic sections that seamlessly give way to powerful drops—a hallmark feature that fans have come to expect from Seven Lions and Kill The Noise. Their ability to craft tracks that balance emotional depth with electrifying energy is on full display, and this release reinforces the chemistry this duo has cultivated over the years. In fact, the song pays tribute to the emotional resonance of “Cold Hearted,” while also taking a significant stride forward with a contemporary touch.
“We did start out with the intention of making ‘Cold Hearted’ part two, so we knew it was going to be melodic and kind of heavy,” shares Seven Lions, highlighting the intentionality behind the song’s production. “So it was pretty intentional.”

In creating “I Need”, Kill The Noise reflects on the past and rediscovering the essence of their earlier work. “During the making of ‘I Need’ I was trying to remember what my thought process was when we made ‘Cold Hearted’ back in 2017 and trying to figure out how I get back to that,” he notes, emphasizing the importance of revisiting their artistic roots. “‘I Need’ ended up actually being in the neighborhood of ‘Cold Hearted’ but modernized to some level.” This sentiment captures the essence of their collaboration, which thrives on a shared understanding and a dynamic back-and-forth of ideas.
The collaborative journey of Seven Lions and Kill The Noise began almost a decade ago when they first crossed paths as members of the OWSLA label. Their shared passion for creating melodic and bass-driven music has formed the foundation of a partnership that has resonated with fans worldwide. Their chemistry not only enhances their music but also is a testament to the mutual respect they hold for each other’s artistic capabilities. “I think that’s how ‘Cold Hearted’ turned out so well too, because we both did what we were best at,” Seven Lions explains, showcasing the strengths each artist brings to the table. “If I’m not good at something, I know Jake’s (Kill The Noise) really good at it, like sound design, and on the flip side Jake will let me write the melodies.”
This new release comes at an exciting time for Seven Lions, who has been enjoying one of the most highly acclaimed periods of his career. His recent album, Asleep in the Garden of Infernal Stars, along with the companion EP, The Dreams Strange and Eternal, has garnered widespread recognition, including the title of Album of the Year from Dancing Astronaut and Best Album at the EDM Awards. With a reputation for pushing the boundaries of electronic music, this collaboration further solidifies his standing as an innovator in the industry.
Looking forward, Seven Lions is set to deliver one of the most ambitious performances of his career on September 25, with Opus Harmonia. This one-night-only event will feature a collaboration with the Seattle Symphony at the iconic Benaroya Hall, presenting a unique fusion of electronic music and classical instrumentation that promises to be a highlight for fans. The momentum continues as Seven Lions, along with Kill The Noise and other talented acts, heads to Europe in October for a series of exhilarating performances. On October 16, the Monstercat x Ophelia showcase will take over the Ministry of Sound in London, followed by another event on October 22 at the Amsterdam Dance Event, where an impressive lineup of artists will join them on stage.
With the release of “I Need,” both Seven Lions and Kill The Noise exemplify why their collaborations resonate with listeners, striking a perfect balance between homage to the past and a fresh, forward-thinking vision for the future. By revisiting the spirit of “Cold Hearted” while embracing new production techniques, they deliver a track that highlights their deep-rooted history together while also inviting fans to look ahead.
