EXIT Festival has announced its return to Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad, Serbia, for a special event in July 2027 after previously opting not to hold the festival. This decision comes following a significant victory by Serbia’s student-led movement after two years of protests.
Context of the Festival's Return
EXIT Festival has a deep connection to Serbia’s social and political landscape, having originated as a student movement advocating for democracy and peace in 2000. The festival has been a vocal supporter of various social causes and felt pressured to suspend operations in Serbia due to political, security, and financial concerns exacerbated by the fallout from a tragic incident in November 2024, which led to extensive public protests against corruption.
Special Experience Ahead of Full Return
Although plans initially aimed for a complete return in 2028 due to logistical challenges, the enthusiastic response from fans has prompted organizers to create a unique experience for July 2027. EXIT Festival aims to celebrate themes of “FREEDOM, UNITY, and LOVE” during this special event.
International Expansion and Future Plans
During a year away from Serbia in 2026, EXIT Festival successfully launched a global series of events across Croatia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and even at the Great Pyramids of Giza in Egypt. The festival now looks forward to reestablishing itself at its iconic home at Petrovaradin Fortress, a venue that has been synonymous with its identity for decades.
Further information regarding the July 2027 event is anticipated, with expectations set for a comprehensive return in 2028.
