Boris FX has acquired iZotope, integrating the audio company into its audio division following inMusic’s acquisition of Native Instruments. This move pairs Boris FX’s expertise in visual effects tools with iZotope’s audio technology, launching a collaborative initiative named Photon.
Features of Photon
Photon operates with 12 machine-learning models developed by the combined research teams of Boris FX and iZotope. These models run locally on users’ GPUs, ensuring data privacy as no audio is uploaded externally. Users can initiate processing at any point in a clip and receive results almost instantly.
Among the features, five distinct models are available for audio stem separation:
Music: a model producing four stems tailored for high-quality remixes and edits.
Drums: a model providing five individual stems for kick, snare, hi-hat, toms, and cymbals.
Voice: separating vocals and music into two distinct stems, convenient for quick acapella or instrumental needs.
Voice Separator: capable of isolating up to six speakers from a single audio file.
Cinema: a model that divides audio into four stems, distinguishing dialogue, music, sound effects, and other elements.
In addition to audio separation, Photon features models designed to enhance audio quality. Voice Restore improves sound by managing noise, levels, microphone tone, and reverb, while other specialized models target specific environments like indoor rooms, urban noise, and wind sounds.
Integration with DAW
The Photon ARA plugin is compatible with Pro Tools, Cubase, REAPER, and other ARA2 host applications. Users can run multiple models simultaneously and switch between them without delay. A Model Manager function is included, allowing users to download new models and updates without the need for reinstallation.
Photon supports the handling of audio and video files. Users can export their work in formats such as WAV, FLAC, and MP3, as well as render processed audio back into the original video files.
Pricing and Subscription Options
Photon is available now for $349, with a promotional price of $259 until a specified date. Existing RX owners can benefit from discounted crossgrade options, with prices ranging from $49 to $179, depending on their current RX version.
Additionally, a subscription option is offered at $19 per month or $119 per year, with introductory rates for the first month and year priced at $12 and $89, respectively.
