Darude recently unveiled a remixed version of his iconic track “Sandstorm,” marking the first time in over two decades that he has officially revisited this classic. The “Sandstorm (Storm 25 Mix)” was released on 18th September and takes inspiration from his live performances during the STORM 25 tour. This remix is part of a larger package featuring various artists and different genres, set to drop on 2nd October.
Refreshing a Classic Track
Darude, known for creating a trance anthem revered by many, approached the remix with respect for the original track’s integrity. He aimed to add fresh elements and energy while retaining the essence that fans connect with so deeply. His vision was to create a version of “Sandstorm” that resonates with 2026 audiences without simply replicating his earlier work.
Inspired by Live Performances
The remix grew out of a live production context, as Darude reworked around 25 tracks during his STORM 25 tour. His live performances allowed him to test new ideas, and “Sandstorm” was foundational in reshaping these concepts. Incorporating a big room feel and melodic techno drops, he crafted a version that was well-received by audiences, reaffirming its inclusion in the official remix package.
Curating the Remix Package
Darude was selective in choosing artists for the remix package, prioritizing a diverse range of genres and energetic styles, rather than opting for only well-known names. He believed in giving newer producers a chance while also addressing the challenges associated with officially remixing a track with such a strong identity. Asserting trust in the fellow artists, he was pleased with how they brought their own interpretations to “Sandstorm.”
A Journey Over 25 Years
“Sandstorm” has evolved through various manifestations, becoming a staple in stadiums and a culturally significant anthem for many online. Darude expressed surprise at the track’s longevity and ability to connect with new audiences, including those who weren’t around at its inception. While he cherishes the journey and opportunities the song has provided, he remains focused on creating new music and experiences for his fans.
The Revival of Trance Culture
As trance music enjoys a resurgence, Darude reflects on the cyclical nature of music, fashion, and culture. The revival of 90s rave influences resonates with him, and he appreciates that younger fans are discovering the foundational producers of that era. However, he emphasizes the importance of innovation, encouraging contemporary artists to incorporate their personal touch to keep the trends progressing.
