Exploring the Electric Daisy Carnival: A Spotlight on HNTR
The Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) is not just a festival; it’s a spiritual experience in the heart of Las Vegas, drawing in — year after year — around 500,000 passionate electronic dance music (EDM) enthusiasts. This three-day celebration brings together the most illustrious DJs from around the globe, truly solidifying its status as a landmark event in the EDM calendar. For many artists, making it onto the EDC lineup is a clear sign of success, a rite of passage that marks their entry into the upper echelons of the music industry.
HNTR’s EDC Debut
This year, the Toronto-native producer HNTR made waves with his EDC debut. Even though he wasn’t on the official lineup for 2025, his remix of Cloonee and InntRaw’s track “Stephanie,” which famously samples Young M.A’s “OOOUUU,” became a festival staple. Whether attendees were at the main stage or tucked away in an underground venue, chances are they heard this infectious remix echoing throughout the festival grounds.
Behind the Music
Fast forward one year, and HNTR has released a new track titled “Holla At A Player,” featuring the talented Juicy J, an Academy Award winner known for his contributions to hip-hop. We had the opportunity to catch up with HNTR and discuss everything from the origins of his new track to the exhilarating moments that have come with his newfound recognition.
Reflecting on his previous year’s experience, HNTR revealed that even industry veterans felt his remix would dominate the festival. “When I made that remix, there was no strategy behind it. I just thought it would be fun to give it my spin.” He has since transformed that remix from a simple bootleg to one of the most recognizable tracks in the festival circuit.
The Emotional Rollercoaster of Success
When asked about his debut at EDC, HNTR expressed a blend of excitement and nostalgia. “EDC has always been a bucket list festival for me. Just being on the lineup was a massive moment,” he recalled. Leading up to his performance, he was on a creative high, dedicating countless hours to perfecting his set. It wasn’t until he stepped onto the stage and witnessed the vast crowd that he truly appreciated how far he had come.
For those who discovered his music through “Stephanie,” HNTR shared his roots. “I’m a producer and DJ from Toronto, where hip-hop culture collides with a rich dance music scene. Those influences naturally blended in the music I created.” Despite skepticism from others about fusing hip-hop and dance, HNTR persisted, believing there was an audience for his unique sound.
Noteworthy Achievements
As he transitioned into a year filled with accomplishments, HNTR highlighted key milestones. Beyond his initial viral track, he noted his EDC debut, international tours, and support from revered artists as major highlights. Notably, he secured eight Beatport No. 1s and ranked #46 in the top 101 producers list, underscoring his commitment to establishing a formidable presence in the industry.
Coping with Rapid Change
Success often breeds unforeseen challenges, and HNTR is no exception. He candidly discussed the “overnight success” narrative that overlooks years of hard work. “The biggest adjustment is probably the expectations; every move feels a little more magnified now.” Yet, he maintains gratitude and a focus on the passion that fueled his journey.
The Making of “Holla At A Player”
The creation of “Holla At A Player” serves as a testament to HNTR’s artistic vision. When asked about landing Juicy J for collaboration, he shared the process. “We have a great creative relationship with Kinetica Records. When I suggested Juicy J, it was almost a joke. But they got it to him, and he connected with the vision.” The resulting synergy between HNTR and Juicy J took the track to exhilarating new heights.
Surprisingly, Juicy J even made a special appearance during HNTR’s set at Billboard’s The Arrival party amid Coachella Valley. “It was a crazy moment I’ll never forget,” he enthused. Seeing the immediate crowd reaction to their collaboration solidified his excitement and eagerness for its official release.
Future Collaborations
As for what lies ahead on the horizon for HNTR, he hinted at exciting developments. “There’s a lot coming; we’re just scratching the surface of what the HNTR project can become.” With more records and collaborations on the way, fans can anticipate more thrilling performances and releases.
When considering potential collaborators, he mentioned that it’s less about fame and more about innovation. “I love working with artists carving out their own lanes.” Names like Denzel Curry, Ty Dolla, and Don Toliver appeared on his wishlist, showcasing his diverse musical influences.
Through his journey, HNTR embodies the spirit of perseverance and innovation in the ever-evolving landscape of EDM, illustrating that the path to success is as much about genuine artistic expression as it is about notoriety.
