DJ Pedro Le Bass, the driving force behind the event, elaborates on the importance of this aesthetic. “You don’t need a ton of lasers, you need quality,” Roncancio emphasized during a recent interview. This minimalistic branding strategy has helped build a loyal local following since the party’s inception in 2024.

Roncancio’s journey toward founding Less Is More began with a transformative trip to Ibiza, Spain, in 2023. Attending a music production retreat surrounded by distinguished DJs and producers, he soaked in the essence of the island’s electronic scene. Morning walks through local markets, savoring fresh French bread and jamón, were juxtaposed with his electrifying experiences at the iconic club, Pikes Ibiza.

It was here that he stumbled upon the “minimal” sound, a style that eschews traditional EDM’s big buildups and bass drops in favor of rhythmic grooves and subtle complexities. Inspired, he returned to Palm Springs determined to replicate the experience by fostering an intricate, nuanced sound.

Cultivating an Underripe Scene

Roncancio’s vision led to the birth of Less Is More in 2024, entering a landscape where minimal parties were virtually nonexistent in the U.S. Armed with determination, he pushed forth in creating a space for minimal to thrive.

The inaugural show drew a scant audience of 11 attendees, including the DJs. However, the effort and trust in the process bore fruit, as subsequent events began attracting larger crowds. “Now, we’re selling out The Dune Room,” Roncancio proudly states, reflecting on their growth.

The foundation for this success lies in creating an exceptional audio experience, reminiscent of Ibiza’s top-tier clubs, with a sound system finely tuned to each venue. As Roncancio notes, “If you redline the sound, you’re pushing the system out of its comfort zone,” avoiding what he calls a “noise hangover.”
