Jeff Mills is once again looking toward the stars.
The Detroit techno visionary has announced a new concept album titled The Trip To Vega, arriving on June 19th, 2026 via his own Axis Records imprint. The release will be available digitally and as a 3LP vinyl edition.
Known for blending science fiction, futurism and electronic music throughout his career, Mills continues that tradition with a project set in the year 2097. The album imagines a future where humanity is forced to abandon Earth following a catastrophic environmental and neurological crisis.
According to the album’s narrative, shifting tectonic plates begin emitting destructive frequencies that gradually affect both the physical and mental health of the global population. Faced with an increasingly hostile planet, humanity launches a mass exodus toward the distant Vega star system, beginning a journey into the unknown.
The album’s eleven tracks serve as chapters in that story, following the voyage from departure to arrival. Titles such as Destination Bright Star, Twenty-Five Light Years Away, Terraform, and Orbiting The Star suggest a cinematic progression through deep space, while tracks like Omega Dust Rings, Lyra, and Circumstellar Debris hint at the cosmic environments encountered along the way.
Science fiction has long been central to Mills’ artistic identity. From his groundbreaking work with Underground Resistance to ambitious multimedia projects exploring space exploration, artificial intelligence and extraterrestrial life, he has consistently positioned techno as a soundtrack for imagining possible futures.
With The Trip To Vega, Mills continues that exploration, using music as a vehicle for storytelling while reflecting on themes that feel increasingly relevant today, including environmental instability, human adaptation and the search for new frontiers.
The album follows a long line of conceptual works that have cemented Mills’ reputation as one of electronic music’s most visionary artists. More than three decades into his career, he remains committed to pushing techno beyond the dancefloor and into the realm of speculative fiction and sonic world-building.
The Trip To Vega lands on June 19th, 2026 via Axis Records.
