Shlømo, CARV, and Basswell Withdrawn from Festivals: Major Hard Techno Artists Face Sexual Misconduct Allegations

Hard Techno’s #MeToo Moment: Allegations and Cancellations Reshape the Scene

In recent weeks, the hard techno music scene has been rocked by serious allegations of sexual misconduct involving prominent DJs including Shlømo, CARV, and Basswell. Several festival line-ups have been altered to reflect these significant developments, leading many to identify this moment as hard techno’s own #MeToo awakening. The impact of these events extends beyond individual artists; it marks a watershed moment for accountability in the electronic music community.

Allegations Emerge: A Social Media Catalyst

The initial allegations surfaced on social media towards the end of February 2026. An Instagram account, operated by an individual claiming to be a former agent at Steer Management—an influential Paris-based booking agency—detailed troubling accounts of inappropriate conduct among several artists, including grooming and assault. The post from this account, known as @bradnolimit, quickly attracted attention and prompted further discussions around the culture of silence that often pervades nightlife and entertainment industries.

Specific accusations against Shlømo include claims of grooming and non-consensual acts, while CARV faces allegations related to physical and sexual misconduct during tours. These revelations are not isolated; other artists, including Odymel and Fantasm, have also found themselves in the eye of this storm, as their names have been mentioned in conjunction with similar allegations.

Industry Response: Promoters Take Action

In light of the unfolding situation, several prominent promoters have made decisive moves. The festival Verknipt was among the first to announce that Shlømo, CARV, and Basswell would no longer be featured in upcoming events. Other major brands such as Airbeat One and World Club Dome swiftly followed suit, leading to a significant reshaping of festival line-ups across Europe and beyond.

The impact of this decision has rippled through various events and venues, threatening the careers of artists who are finding themselves not only removed from headline slots but also facing public scrutiny and potential erasure from the scene. Festivals like Germany’s Open Beatz and Australian promoter Pitch Music & Arts have also cancelled performances featuring the accused DJs, amplifying calls within the industry for better safeguards that protect artists and fans alike.

The Broader Conversation: Trust and Safety

As these allegations gain traction, a broader dialogue has emerged within the electronic music community regarding power dynamics and safety at events. Many are echoing sentiments voiced in an online post by DJ Mag, which highlighted how this situation has ignited widespread outcry and discussion about the need for a safer atmosphere at shows. The importance of transparency is being emphasized, as individuals and collectives call for systems that support those who come forward with accusations, ensuring they feel heard and protected.

Navigating Allegations: Artists Respond

The accused artists have each given differing responses amidst the chaos. Shlømo has categorically denied the allegations, describing them as a “sustained defamation and harassment campaign,” expressing intentions of seeking legal recourse. In his statement, he emphasized that he has never engaged in any form of sexual abuse.

On the other hand, CARV has acknowledged sending explicit messages but insists there was no non-consensual behavior, stating that while his conduct may have been inappropriate, it was not illegal. He has since cancelled all of his performances and announced the end of the CARV project. Basswell has not yet publicly addressed the allegations.

Continuing Developments: The Investigation and Industry Impact

Though no criminal charges have been confirmed at this time, the investigation is still ongoing for several of the claims. The fallout from these allegations has already set a precedent, with a spotlight on the urgent need for reform within the electronic music industry. Calls for a significant cultural shift are gaining momentum, aiming to dismantle the harmful practices that have allowed misconduct to proliferate blanketed by silence.

As the hard techno genre grapples with these serious issues, the industry awaits further developments and any steps that may be taken toward justice for those affected. The ongoing dialogue emphasizes the importance of honoring the voices of survivors, fostering an inclusive culture free from fear and intimidation.
