Ever wondered what it might be like to head out to the middle of nowhere and party among sand dunes? Well, if you haven’t you’re probably thinking about it now. Sounds pretty cool, doesn’t it?
While it might sound like a wild dream, there are actually a fair few desert festivals across the globe that make this dream come true every year. Partiers travel from all over to head out to remote areas, temporarily ditching the world as we know it, and submerging themselves in a faraway paradise as they jam to some of their favourite artists on stage. Sound good? We think so too.
From Californian wastelands to sun-smothered Spanish getaways, here are the best desert festivals in 2026.
Coachella
When: Friday 10th – Sunday 12th and Friday 17th – Sunday 19th April 2026
Where: Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, USA
Few festivals do desert escapism quite like Coachella. Taking over the Empire Polo Club in the Colorado Desert, it’s one of the most recognisable music festivals on the planet, blending huge global artists, art installations, fashion, food, and a whole lot of sun-soaked spectacle.
Spread across two weekends, Coachella is the kind of festival that feels bigger than the music alone. Expect mammoth stages, surprise guest moments, palm trees, desert sunsets, and the sort of atmosphere that has made it a bucket-list trip for festival fans across the world.
Burning Man
When: Sunday 30th August – Monday 7th September 2026
Where: Black Rock City in Black Rock Desert, Nevada, USA
Burning Man is less a standard festival and more a temporary desert civilisation. Each year, Black Rock City rises from the Nevada desert, bringing together art, performance, music, mutant vehicles, camps, rituals, dust storms, and some of the most surreal scenes you’re likely to find anywhere on earth.
Built around participation rather than passive spectating, Burning Man asks attendees to get stuck in, create, share, help, and leave no trace when it’s all over. It’s demanding, dusty, and definitely not your average festival weekend, but that’s exactly what makes it such a legendary desert gathering.
Monegros Desert Festival
When: Saturday 25th July 2026
Where: Monegros Desert in Fraga, Spain
If your idea of a desert festival involves relentless beats, dust in the air, and dancing until your legs forget what rest feels like, Monegros Desert Festival should be very high on the list. Set in the Spanish desert near Fraga, it’s a heavyweight electronic music marathon with a reputation for going seriously hard.
Known for its massive production, wide-reaching electronic sound, and no-nonsense party energy, Monegros pulls together techno, house, drum and bass, hip-hop, dub, psytrance, and more across a sprawling desert site. It’s intense, sweaty, and properly unforgettable.
Stagecoach Festival
When: Friday 24th – Sunday 26th April 2026
Where: Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, USA
Back at the same desert home as Coachella, Stagecoach swaps glittery pop spectacle for cowboy boots, country anthems, BBQ smoke, and one of the biggest country music parties in the world. If you like your desert festivals with a little more twang, this is the one.
But Stagecoach is far from a straight-up country-only affair. Across the weekend, you can usually expect country, folk, bluegrass, rock, Americana, late-night DJ sets, big singalong moments, and plenty of extra attractions across the site. Basically, it’s a giant desert knees-up with hats, guitars, and massive choruses.
Sandbox Festival
When: Thursday 7th – Saturday 9th May 2026
Where: El Gouna in Red Sea, Egypt
Sandbox Festival gives you the best of both worlds: desert heat on one side and the Red Sea on the other. Taking place in El Gouna, the Egyptian electronic festival turns a resort town near Hurghada into a beachside escape built around house, techno, sunshine, and late-night dancing.
It’s the sort of festival where the location does half the work before the music even starts. Think warm nights, sea air, open-air stages, boat-trip energy, and a crowd there to lock into the rhythm for a few days properly. For dance music fans after something a little different, Sandbox is a serious shout.
AfrikaBurn
When: Monday 27th April – Sunday 3rd May 2026
Where: Quaggafontein in Tankwa Karoo, South Africa
AfrikaBurn takes the spirit of temporary desert cities to South Africa’s Tankwa Karoo, where participants come together to build a world of art, music, costume, performance, theme camps, and fire-lit spectacle. Remote, creative, and rooted in community, it’s one of the most striking desert events on the planet.
Much like Burning Man, this isn’t really about turning up, watching a few sets, and heading home. AfrikaBurn is shaped by the people who attend it, with gifting, participation, self-reliance, and creativity at its core. Expect wide-open desert, wild installations, strange encounters, and a proper sense of stepping out of everyday life.
From America to Europe, there are so many killer desert festivals to check out. No matter which you’ve got your eyes on, you’d better start stockpiling the sun cream!
