From their early beginnings in the vibrant music scene of Sydney to their current bases in Amsterdam and Stockholm, the duo known as Two Another has cultivated a distinctive sound. This sound beautifully blends elements of electronic music, alternative R&B, and soul, and is increasingly oriented toward the dancefloor. Recent times have seen them take bold steps, culminating in their latest single, ‘All Your Love,’ which captures this adventurous spirit while the duo also expands their live offerings through innovative hybrid DJ sets.
In a recent conversation, the duo delved into their creative process, influences, and evolving relationship with club culture.
From Sydney to the World
EG: Hi, guys! Welcome to EG. It’s a pleasure to have you here with us. How have you been doing?
Two Another: Hey! It’s a pleasure to be talking to you. We’ve been great, trying to get through the European winter, and now we are together in the studio in London. The sun is finally out!
Their relocation from Sydney to different European hotspots has deepened their musical narrative, allowing them to explore a broader range of influences and styles. This geographical movement mirrors their evolving sound, which is heavily influenced by their surroundings.
Excitement around ‘All Your Love’
EG: Congratulations on the release of your new single, ‘All Your Love.’ What has the initial reception been like so far?
Two Another: Thanks! We’re super excited to have this track out. It was made pretty recently at the end of last year while we were in Sydney, and we’re thrilled that people seem to be enjoying the upbeat, summery vibe that we aimed for.
The infectious energy of ‘All Your Love’ reflects the warmer days of summer, even as the duo temporarily navigates the chill of European winters. The track brings a refreshing twist to their existing discography, reflecting their growth and commitment to evolving their sound.
Crafting Unique Sounds
EG: What can you tell us about the inspiration behind this particular track?
Two Another: We often start our more uptempo tracks by sampling older soul and funk records. The warmth and imperfections in those records add immediate character to the music, helping us balance the nostalgic and modern. We love layering contemporary production while keeping the essence of the original sample. Vocally, we’ve drawn a lot of inspiration from Jungle, especially their use of stacked group vocals paired with groovy instrumentals.
Their meticulous sampling process instills a sense of authenticity, breathing fresh life into classic sounds. This blend of eras contributes to their unique identity and grows their artistic legacy.
Collaborative Studio Dynamics
EG: In the studio, how do you operate? Do you have defined roles, or does it vary?
Two Another: We’ve been making music together for so long that it’s pretty instinctual now. Typically, Angus handles the computer while Eliot is on the mic, but we switch roles frequently. Collaboration plays a massive role in our creative process; our wide network of musicians and writers often brings new elements to our tracks that neither of us would have come up with alone.
This flexibility in roles enhances their creative process, ensuring that each project is enriched by diverse perspectives and experiences. Their collaborative spirit not only defines their music but also fosters a community around it.
Transition to Club Culture
EG: You’ve been transitioning to a more club-focused sound lately. What has motivated this change in direction?
Two Another: We’ve always had a love for electronic music—that’s what originally drew us to music production. It feels like we’ve come full circle now. We grew up listening to artists like Daft Punk and The Chemical Brothers, which influenced us significantly. As we matured and started working with more musicians, our sound shifted to something more soulful, but electronic music has always been a constant in our backgrounds.
Now, with a drive to explore new challenges, they’ve embraced a fresh approach, culminating in their innovative hybrid DJ sets that invite audience interaction and engagement.
The Impact of the Club Scene
EG: How has the club culture influenced your sound?
Two Another: Growing up in the peak of Ed Banger in the early 2000s, our early club experiences revolved around watching eclectic DJs like Erol Alkan and Justice. Their ability to mix genres from disco to indie influenced what Two Another has become today.
This rich tapestry of influences underscores their identity, blending that nostalgia with modern sounds to create a dynamic listening experience. It emphasizes their strong roots in a diverse musical landscape.
Goals and Aspirations
EG: What would you like to accomplish as artists this year? Is there something “tangible” that you’re aiming for?
Two Another: We’re currently working on exciting collaborations with various DJs, and we can’t wait to share those this year. Also, we’re looking to perform our Hybrid set much more often!
This forward-looking mindset shows their commitment to growth and innovation, ensuring their art resonates in an ever-changing musical landscape.
The Challenges Ahead
EG: What challenges do you foresee for artists in the near future? Any advice for your colleagues?
Two Another: With technology continuously evolving, it’s becoming easier for people to create music, which is amazing. However, this also risks homogenizing sound, especially with the influence of AI. Our advice? Embrace imperfections and focus on the emotional character of the song. Authenticity will always shine through.
This wisdom reflects not only their artistic journey but also a deeper understanding of the music industry’s complexities and its constant evolution.
Future Endeavors
EG: What’s next for Two Another? Where can your fans catch you next?
Two Another: A lot of new music is on the horizon, along with some exciting collaborations. We’re also refining our hybrid set and look forward to sharing some dates soon!
Their promising future paints a vibrant picture of a duo committed to exploration, creativity, and connection within the music world.
