Boardmasters Festival 2026: A Celebration of Music, Surfing, and Community
The 2026 edition of Boardmasters Festival has once again set the stage for a remarkable five-day celebration, bringing together music enthusiasts, surfers, and local communities on the stunning Cornish coast. From August 4 to 8, Watergate Bay and Fistral Beach transformed into a lively hub, welcoming 158,000 attendees—each of whom contributed to the festival’s electrifying atmosphere.
Headline Performances That Stole the Show
The festival saw an impressive lineup gracing multiple stages, topping off with powerhouse performances from Fatboy Slim, Lily Allen, and Kasabian. Fatboy Slim kicked off the event on the Main Stage, turning Watergate Bay into an expansive outdoor dancefloor. Local band Fletchr Fletchr set the tone for the day with an engaging opening set, followed by the captivating Rose Gray, who mesmerized the audience with her soulful sound.
On Saturday, the spotlight shifted to Lily Allen as she passionately performed her album ‘West End Girl.’ Her set resonated with the crowd, making it a center-stage highlight of the weekend. As the curtains closed on Sunday, Kasabian delivered a thrilling finale that left festival-goers buzzing. The day began with Essy Sparrow, the inaugural winner of Boardmasters Breaking, who earned her place on stage through a competition aimed at spotlighting emerging talent.
A Diverse Musical Experience
The festival’s lineup extended well beyond the headline acts, showcasing a rich tapestry of genres from indie to electronic, jungle to grime. Notable acts included The Kooks and Loyle Carner, who delivered unforgettable performances on the Main Stage. Nia Archives dazzled the audience with tracks from her album ‘Emotional Junglist,’ while an impressive roster of artists such as Rudimental, Tinie Tempah, Example, and Dizzee Rascal kept the energy high.
Various festival areas provided unique identities and soundscapes. The Mordros stage was a hub for legends like Pendulum and Goldie, while the Surf Club 81 offered cliffside sets from General Levy and others. Unleashed amplified the dance music scene with a vibrant atmosphere featuring Ewan McVicar and Hannah Wants. Meanwhile, the Keg & Pasty stage celebrated local Cornish talent, combining sea shanties and stand-up comedy to further enrich the festival experience.
A Commitment to Environmental Awareness
This year, Boardmasters pushed the envelope on their commitment to environmental sustainability through a partnership with Oceana UK. At The View stage, Falmouth University students showcased powerful protest artworks advocating against harmful bottom-trawling practices in Marine Protected Areas. Performers like Sasha Keable and Hot 8 Brass Band provided entertainment while addressing critical environmental issues.
Festival-goers were encouraged to engage with these initiatives, reflecting Boardmasters’ dedication to preserving the breathtaking beauty of Cornwall while fostering a collective spirit for change.
Surfing Competitions: A Highlight of the Festival
The surf side of Boardmasters remained a focal point of excitement, especially with the Boardmasters Open at Fistral Beach earning World Surf League QS 4,000 status. International competitors gathered to battle for titles in both men’s and women’s divisions. Sam Piter from France claimed the Men’s Shortboard title, a well-fought victory against local favorite Lukas Skinner. In an impressive display, Spain’s Janire Gonzalez Etxabarri took home the Women’s Shortboard crown, while Alice Lemoigne secured her legendary seventh title in the women’s longboard event.
Beyond the Music and Surf
Beyond the energetic performances and competitive surfing, Boardmasters offered an array of wellness experiences. Attendees enjoyed yoga sessions, sound baths, and even ice baths, alongside a sensory calm space designed for neurodiverse guests. This emphasis on well-being added a unique dimension to the festival, ensuring a welcoming environment for all.
The presence of local food vendors and independent businesses further connected the festival to its Cornish roots, highlighting the region’s culinary delights and fostering a sense of community.
The Vision for the Future
Festival Director Rob Spring expressed excitement over the 2026 gathering, describing it as the culmination of Boardmasters’ vision—a seamless blend of music, surfing, and the vibrant atmosphere of the Cornish coast. With the latest edition wrapped up, plans are already in motion for the next chapter.
Boardmasters will make its much-anticipated return from August 4 to 8, 2027, and fans can sign up for pre-sale access to ensure they don’t miss out on the next exhilarating experience.
