Grab your glitter, prep your “bass face” and get ready to dance.
For its 12th year, Breakaway Music Festival is back to bring beats and bass to central Ohio.
Hosted by Bobby Hendrickson of @DJLoversClub and proudly presented by CELSIUS, Breakaway Ohio will take over Historic Crew Stadium and bring 21 national touring acts and three Ohio DJs to Columbus on May 30-31.
May 30 headliners include Dom Dolla and electronic-music duo SOFI TUKKER, and the next night, Marshmello, ISOxo and Afrojackwill take the stage as the May 31 headliners.
According to Breakaway co-founder Zach Ruben, the energy and passion in Columbus is “unmatched.”
“Columbus has been home to Breakaway for 12 years, and it remains a core part of our identity,” Ruben said.
“This city has a longstanding connection to dance music, with a history that runs deep. We’re not just hosting a festival here — we’re continuing that tradition, bringing fans together to celebrate electronic music in a way that’s uniquely Columbus.”
Three Ohio DJs — Noha, SONS andVRYBAD — were added to the lineup as a pillar of Breakaway’s culture of championing locals, according to a press release.
A self-proclaimed “crazy blonde DJ” with over 500,000 followers on Instagram, Alexandra Pohl, or Xandra, is returning to Ohio on May 30 to perform at the festival after attending the festival herself as a teen.
The Cincinnati native and Ohio State fan said she knew she wanted to become a DJ in high school after seeing Australian music producer and DJ Alison Wonderland perform at Lollapalooza.
Pohl said she is excited to return to her home state to perform and hopes to inspire other people to become a DJ just as she was inspired all those years ago.
“I told my mom I wanted to become a DJ, and we bought a board together, just like a baby beginner board,” Pohl said.
“This whole entire career started for me in Ohio, which I feel like is very not normal just because the music scene is not that big there. I’m really excited to come back, and I love doing any hometown shows. It’s always something that’s near and dear to my heart.”
Xandra will be releasing a new song on the day of her Breakaway Ohio set because the festival and hometown shows are so special to her.
“I’m going to be playing the song that I’m releasing that day for the first time. It’s just going to be crazy. I’m going to be throwing down a set,” she said.
“If people want to have a fun time and see a female DJ, come see what I’m about. Even if they aren’t a fan, hopefully they’ll leave the show being a fan.”
