Soma Records is celebrating a major milestone in 2026 with the launch of SOMA35, a new remix series marking the Glasgow label’s 35th anniversary.
The project revisits key moments from Soma’s extensive catalogue, inviting contemporary artists to reinterpret music from one of techno’s most respected institutions. The first release, SOMA35.1, focuses on tracks by label founders Slam, reimagined by Mark Broom, FJAAK, .VRIL and Linear Phase.
The EP will be released digitally on June 26th, followed by a vinyl edition on July 24th. It also carries additional significance as Soma’s 700th release, highlighting the label’s remarkable longevity and influence within electronic music.
Founded in 1991 by Scottish techno duo Slam, Soma Records emerged during a transformative period for dance music. What began as a platform for the duo’s own productions quickly evolved into one of the most important labels in techno history.
Over the past three and a half decades, Soma has helped launch and support countless influential artists. Its catalogue includes releases from figures such as Surgeon, Oscar Mulero, Carl Craig, The Black Dog and many others, while famously releasing Daft Punk’s breakthrough single Da Funk in 1995.
Reflecting on the label’s origins, Slam explained that Soma “was born out of a need to create a platform for our own productions.” That initial vision ultimately grew into a globally respected imprint that has consistently championed forward-thinking electronic music.
The choice of remixers for the first instalment reflects Soma’s continued connection to both established and contemporary techno scenes. From Mark Broom’s driving, groove-focused style to FJAAK’s energetic warehouse sound and .VRIL’s deep, atmospheric approach, the EP brings together different perspectives while honoring the label’s legacy.
As techno continues to evolve, SOMA35 offers an opportunity to revisit the music that helped shape the genre while introducing it to new audiences.
For a label that has spent 35 years pushing electronic music forward, looking back feels like the perfect way to celebrate the journey. 🎛️🖤🎉
