A fire broke out at Berlin club OXI during the early hours of the morning after a wooden structure in the venue’s courtyard area caught fire, prompting a large emergency response from the Berlin Fire Department.
According to local authorities, the blaze began outside the Lichtenberg club before spreading to part of an adjacent wooden façade connected to the venue.
Three people who were still on site reportedly noticed the fire shortly after it started and attempted to contain the flames using fire extinguishers before emergency services arrived.
Berlin firefighters responded quickly to the scene.
Approximately 30 firefighters and eight emergency vehicles were deployed to contain the situation, with crews spending around two hours working to fully extinguish the fire and ensure no additional hotspots remained hidden inside the structure.
As part of the operation, sections of the wooden façade had to be cut open using chainsaws so firefighters could inspect for internal heat pockets and possible reignition points.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Authorities also confirmed that the fire did not spread further into the club interior and that no dangerous smoke contamination was detected inside the main building itself.
While the official investigation remains ongoing, representatives connected to OXI told Resident Advisor they strongly suspect the incident may have been an arson attack.
According to a spokesperson from the venue, an employee still inside the club reportedly heard a loud bang shortly before the fire started.
The venue also claims several bottles believed to contain fire-starting materials were later discovered among debris on the public street side near the club’s wooden garden wall.
“We’re very confident it was an arson attack,” the spokesperson told Resident Advisor.
At the moment, Berlin authorities have not officially confirmed the cause of the fire, and investigations remain active.
The incident has already sparked concern within Berlin’s nightlife community, particularly given OXI’s growing importance inside the city’s contemporary electronic music landscape.
Located in the Lichtenberg district, OXI has become one of Berlin’s most recognizable newer-generation club spaces, balancing outdoor rave culture, industrial aesthetics and forward-thinking electronic programming while maintaining close ties to the city’s underground scene.
Its courtyard and garden spaces in particular have become central parts of the venue’s identity during warmer months, hosting extended daytime and nighttime events across multiple dancefloor areas.
News of the fire quickly circulated throughout Berlin club networks overnight, with many artists, promoters and attendees expressing relief that nobody was harmed.
The situation also arrives during an increasingly sensitive period for nightlife spaces globally, as independent clubs continue facing rising operational pressure, security concerns and economic instability across multiple cities.
Although the physical damage at OXI currently appears limited mainly to the exterior structure, the long-term impact will likely depend on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
