Saturday morning race will feature DJs along the route and a dance party at the finish line.
Prepare yourself for a unique blend of athleticism and electronic music at the second annual Detroit Techno 5K this Saturday at Historic Fort Wayne. This exciting event promises an engaging experience that seamlessly marries the thrill of a timed race with the energetic vibrancy of a dance party.
Harrison Diskin, an avid runner and experienced event producer, conceived the Techno 5K to bring together the community while celebrating both physical fitness and the rich culture of electronic music. The race will kick off at 10 a.m., featuring electrifying DJ sets starting with Raedy Lex at the starting line, followed by Simio along the route, and culminating with a live performance by Jack Beats at the finish line.
This year’s race is an official partner of Movement, the renowned three-day electronic music festival that’s set to take over Hart Plaza in downtown Detroit from Saturday through Monday. This collaboration enhances the excitement surrounding the race, drawing a crowd excited not just for a morning workout but for a weekend celebrating electronic music culture.
If you’re planning to participate, there’s room for 600 runners, increased from last year’s 400, indicating the growing popularity of the event. Interested participants can register at techno5k.com, with a registration fee of $69.50, which offers not only the chance to run but also to enjoy a vibrant community experience.
Diskin, originally from Farmington Hills, started this initiative in 2025 alongside his childhood friend Zac Berlin. The choice of Historic Fort Wayne as the race venue reflects Diskin’s deep roots in the local community and his experience in event production, harking back to his involvement in organizing the Oakaloosa Festival in 2013. His vision for the Techno 5K is not just a one-off event; he envisions it as a blueprint for future expansions into other cities and venues.
This year’s iteration promises even more than its predecessor. It will spotlight various food trucks and a coffee truck to ensure participants have sufficient energy for both the run and the celebrations that follow. Diskin labels this growth as a “responsible expansion,” emphasizing community-focused experiences while increasing participation.
Despite his involvement in planning expansive events, Diskin has maintained a personal passion for running since 2017. He appreciates the analog nature of running in a world dominated by digital distractions. “There’s something so special about being present when you’re running,” he shares, highlighting the mental clarity and freedom that comes from stepping away from screens and immersing oneself in the physical environment.
For Diskin, the Techno 5K is not merely about racing—it’s about creating a community. He aims to foster connections among runners who share a passion for electronic music and social gatherings. “We want to build a community of runners that are into electronic music and events,” he explains, envisioning a shared space where health and creativity can thrive together.
As the event approaches, the excitement builds: run now, dance later—an invitation for participants to kick off their Movement weekend on the right foot, both literally and figuratively. This vibrant interaction of sound, movement, and community sets the stage for a memorable Saturday at Historic Fort Wayne.
