Berlin’s ever-evolving nightlife landscape is about to welcome an exciting new addition. This weekend marks the official opening of FOUND, a new venue set within one of the city’s most historically significant industrial sites, promising to become far more than just another club.
Located in the Tempelhof-Schöneberg district, FOUND occupies a vast warehouse complex that once formed part of the historic Schultheiss Brewery. Over the decades, the site has undergone several transformations, including a memorable period as the home of the legendary KitKatClub between 2001 and 2004. In more recent years, the space operated under the name Malzfabrik, primarily hosting private and corporate events.
Now, the venue begins a completely new chapter.
The transformation follows the appointment of Mika Schröter, who took over management of the 8,500-capacity complex earlier this year. Rather than creating a conventional nightclub, Schröter envisions FOUND as a multidisciplinary platform where music, culture and creative exchange coexist under one roof.
“What attracted us to the space was the combination of industrial heritage and cultural history,” Schröter explained in an interview with Resident Advisor. “You can still feel the different layers of its past, and we see FOUND as the next chapter in that story.”
That philosophy extends beyond electronic music alone. The venue plans to host interdisciplinary events, artistic collaborations and cultural projects alongside club programming, aiming to build long-term relationships with both local and international creatives.
The opening event, taking place on Saturday, June 27th, sets the tone perfectly. Legendary Berlin institution Watergate will host a marathon open-air celebration featuring an impressive lineup including DJ Heartstring, Interplanetary Criminal, DJ Spit, THC and several other artists. The collaboration has already received official support from Tempelhof-Schöneberg Mayor Jörn Oltmann, who praised the project for strengthening the district’s cultural identity.
At a time when Berlin’s nightlife continues to navigate economic pressures and changing urban landscapes, the arrival of FOUND offers an encouraging reminder of the city’s remarkable ability to reinvent itself. Instead of replacing history, the project embraces it, giving new life to a space that has witnessed multiple generations of club culture.
Schröter believes that spirit lies at the heart of Berlin itself.
“Berlin’s nightlife has always been shaped by people creating new possibilities within existing spaces,” he said. “FOUND is our contribution to that tradition.”
Rather than chasing trends or short-lived hype, FOUND aims to grow organically—prioritizing quality programming, meaningful artistic partnerships and a community-driven approach that reflects the values that made Berlin one of the world’s electronic music capitals.
With an iconic location, ambitious vision and one of the city’s most respected promoters leading its opening weekend, FOUND already feels like more than just a new venue.
It feels like the beginning of Berlin’s next clubbing story. 🖤🏭🎶
