Deep Dish have officially released their long-awaited remix of Moderat’s Eating Hooks, unveiling the new interpretation today through Global Underground ahead of the upcoming GU49: Dublin compilation.
The release marks another major moment in the legendary duo’s ongoing return while simultaneously reviving one of Moderat’s most emotionally resonant productions for modern dancefloors.
Originally released in 2016, Eating Hooks stood out as one of Moderat’s most atmospheric and introspective works — balancing fragile vocals, minimal electronic textures and haunting emotional tension. Deep Dish now reshape that foundation into something designed specifically for extended club environments without losing the emotional depth that made the original so powerful in the first place.
Rather than dramatically reinventing the track, the duo take a more careful and immersive approach.
The remix preserves the hypnotic pacing and stripped-back atmosphere of the original version while gradually introducing new layers of movement, tension and progression. A constantly evolving arpeggiated synth line becomes central to the new arrangement, weaving around the vocals and subtly transforming the emotional energy into something more expansive and dancefloor-oriented.
According to Deep Dish, maintaining the emotional core of Moderat’s work was essential throughout the process.
“Moderat’s ‘Eating Hooks’ has always carried a certain emotional weight for us,” the duo explained. “There’s a depth to their music that stays with you and reworking it was a real honor for us.”
They added that the intention was never to overwrite the original, but rather reshape it into a version capable of unfolding naturally inside late-night club sets.
“Our approach was to preserve that essence while reshaping it for the dancefloor, pushing it into a more club-focused direction; something that could stretch out and evolve in a late-night set.”
The remix will serve as a centerpiece within the final chapter of Deep Dish’s Global Underground trilogy.
Their forthcoming GU49: Dublin mix arrives on May 29 and closes the duo’s contribution to the iconic GU City Series following previous editions centered around Moscow and Toronto.
The release also carries additional significance because it marks the first Moderat-related release in three years, following the Rampa & ME remix of More Love.
Support from DJs arrived almost immediately after early versions of the remix began circulating. Artists including Damian Lazarus, Hernan Cattaneo, AFFKT, Deer Jade, Joyce Muniz, Eelke Kleijn, Just Her, Anthony Pappa, Joseph Capriati, Marco Faraone and Cami Jones have already incorporated the track into sets across multiple scenes and club environments.
That wide range of support highlights exactly why the remix feels so effective.
It sits comfortably between melodic techno, progressive house and deeper late-night club spaces without fully belonging to any one category — something Deep Dish have historically mastered throughout their career.
As anticipation builds toward GU49: Dublin, the Eating Hooks remix offers a strong indication of the emotional and dancefloor-focused direction shaping the final chapter of the duo’s Global Underground return.
